In contrast to the witch Into the forestSo, the Beam (Gen 2) is the Goldilocks of Sonos speakers—good, great, and a perfect fit. It’s not the most powerful speaker from the brand, but it’s the best balance of sound and volume for most living rooms. Beam supports Dolby Atmos and voice assistants (Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri); It processes faster than its predecessor; And it’s incredibly sleek, whether on your shelf or wall-mounted.
If the Beam is the best Sonos speaker for most people, the Arc (9/10, WIRED Recommend) is our upgrade pick. Our choice for home theater setups, the incredibly powerful arc delivers deep bass and crisp sound. In certain rooms, sound can bounce off the walls well enough to mimic a decent surround sound system. This speaker is the most expensive in the Sonos line, so it’s a great opportunity to upgrade and save some cash in the process.
A soundbar can do a lot to improve your TV experience, but a subwoofer is a great addition to complete your sound. The Sub is pricey, but it’s worth it for the richer bass it delivers. You get a more balanced sound overall. If that’s too expensive, check out the latest Sonos Sub Mini ($429).

When it comes to a good, old fashioned, voice-controlled speaker, the Sonos One is our favorite. It can connect to virtual assistants like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, adding an extra layer of utilities, and still provides some of the best sound quality out there. If you don’t want the voice control option, you can get the Sonos One SL for $159 ($49 off) (Target) — you’ll get all the pros of a speaker without any of the privacy concerns.
Do you take your tunes on the go? The Sonos Roam SL is one of our favorite types of portable Bluetooth speakers. It has all the features and great sound quality we love in the regular Roam (9/10, WIRED recommends) without the voice control. Unfortunately, the wireless charging pad ($49) isn’t included with the speaker, but with the money you save… it technically only costs $17. Seems like a win to me.
