Yakima Valley Weekender: Scary Movie Weekend, Bigfoot Con and Halloween Event for Kids at the Mall

Halloween is still a week and a half away, but the pursuits are already starting to unravel.

There are so many horrific activities to choose from this weekend and so much more.

Do you believe in cryptids, enjoy flat track spells or like to show off your creativity and paint a pumpkin? You’ve got your weekend picks covered.

Haunted Film Festival

Majestic Theatre, 1919 14th Street in Union Gap, will hold its second annual haunted film festival Friday and Saturday.October 21-22, 2022, With $5 movies.

You can watch one movie for $5 or see two movies for $10 and get free medium popcorn. Tickets can be purchased on site or in advance at yakimatheatres.com/majestic.

Friday’s films are “Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight” (1995), “My Bloody Valentine” (1981), “Tremors” (1990) and “April Fool’s Day” (1986). Each movie plays at 7 and 9 pm

Saturday mornings at 12:30 and 2:30: “ET The Extra-Terrestrial” (1982), “Labyrinth” (1986), “The Dark Crystal” (1982) and “Beetlejuice” (1988).

The Saturday Night films are “Scream” (1996), “Friday the 13th” (1980), “Frighteners” (1996) and “Kojo” (1983). Each movie plays at 7 and 9 pm

If you’re not a fan of Halloween-themed movies, the “Back to the Future” trilogy runs Saturday starting at 5:45 p.m., and you can watch all three for $20.

Malhoen is terrifying

Little ghosts and goblins are welcome to roam upstairs from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Valley Mall, 2529 Main St. In Union Gap. A “Mall Halloween” event will replace trick-or-treat at the mall this year.

“Everyone is invited to some fairy tales and happy times with a special performance by the Sanderson Sisters, a costume contest and of course candy,” Jacob Butler, director of marketing for Valley Mall, said in an email.

The Sanderson Sisters will judge a costume contest, and there will be candy, crafts, games, and a special guest appearance.

Bigfoot Con 2022

Local Bigfoot fans and Pacific Northwest fans will gather at Toppenish from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Legends Casino, 580 Fort Road in Toppenish, for Bigfoot Con 2022.

Patterson’s Bob Gimlin will introduce fame, and She-Squatchers, an all-female research team, will teach attendees about remote geographic viewing.

Also speaking, are Central and Eastern Washington experts Mel Scahan, Holly Anna Dekoto Littlepool, Montra Weathers, Kyle Gibson and the Sasquatch Sisters NW.

Shop Native American art and Bigfoot sellers while kids enjoy children’s crafts and activities with Donell Barlow, author of “Bigfoot and Lightning Bug.”

Venture into Grandview this weekend for the first Grandtoberfest.

Visit the family-friendly sellers market from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Grandview and attend a car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The day ends with the Grandtoberfest of 21 and older from 4-8:30 p.m. at the 100th Building on Division Street. For $25, visitors will get a drink, four drink tickets, and full party access. There will be several drink options to choose from as well as food vendors and pop-up vendors. DJs will play music and there will be games to play.

roller derby

The Wine Country Crushers will compete with the Northwest Derby Company at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Barrel, 13 Ranchrite Road.

Before the main match, you can watch the junior teams Pixies vs Cherry Blossoms at 4pm

Family Harvest Night Party

Bring the family to Wandering Hop: WAnderland at 260 N. Bonair Road in Zillah from 3-6 p.m. Sunday for family fun and more.

The afternoon event will include a free pumpkin drawing, sensory boxes, toys, sweets and more.

Food and drinks will be available in the bar room for children and adults.
